White-browed wagtail


Hindi Name – Khanjan

White-browed wagtail is commonly found near small water bodies.

How does the bird appear…

It is the largest gtail species of wagtail and is 21 cm in length. The upperparts are black with white head and breast, supercilium and large white wingbar.  The female has the black less intense than in the male. Juveniles are like the females brown-grey where the adult is black.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

It is found in open freshwater wetland habitats.


It is insectivorous.

Breeding & Nesting

It breeds from March to October. Nest is located near water and placed on ground or rocks in a hole, ledge or mud bank. Nest is cup shaped.
