It is small, broad and sturdily built bird. The upperparts are grey-brown and spotted heavily with white. The underparts are white, streaked with brown. The facial disc is pale and the iris is yellow. Neckband and supercillium are white. Both sexes are similar.

It inhabits open habitats and farmlands, it is also found near human habitation as it has well adapted living in cities.
It feeds on insects and small vertebrates which include bats and rodents.
Breeding & Nesting
It breeds from November to April. It nests in cavities. The typical clutch is made up of 3-4 eggs. Young ones are initially fed with insects and later with small vertebrates.
