How does the bird appear…
It displays marked sexual dimorphism in size, with the female measuring up to 30% larger than the male. It is stocky bird with pointed wings and short, square tail. Crown and upperparts are bluish grey. Underparts are white to rusty and are barred with thin clean bands of dark brown or black. Tail is black with black tip and a white band at the very end. The top of the head and a “moustache” along the cheeks are black which is contrast to pale sides of neck and white throat. Cere and feet are yellow while beak and claws are black
Habitat: Where to find this bird?
It inhabits a diverse range of habitats, from cold tundra to hot deserts and tropics, and from oceanic islands, to forests, wetlands, savannah and mountains.
It feeds mainly on medium sized birds but also takes small mammals, reptiles and even insects.
Breeding & Nesting
Its breeding season varies depending upon location, weather conditions and availability of food. Nest site is chosen by female and nest is shallow scrape on cliff edge. Incubation period is of 29-33 days.
It is fastest flying bird and can reach speed of 320 km/h while chasing prey.
