Montagu’s harrier


Montagu’s harrier is a long distance migratory bird of prey.

How does the bird appear…

Male is pale grey with black wing bars and wing tips, and have a grey rump.

Female is brown with a whitish rump, juveniles are similarto females but have reddish-brown underparts.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

It is found in grasslands and meadows, cultivated fields and fallow fields, heath, moors, marshes, wet areas near ponds and lakes and cultivated steppes.


It feeds on small birds, small rodents, bird eggs, reptiles and large insects.

Breeding & Nesting

It breeds from May to June. Nest is constructed by female. Incubation period is of 40 days.
