Malabar pied hornbill is large hornbill. It is also known lesser pied hornbill.
How does the bird appear…
It is mainly black except on abdomen, throat patch, tail sides and on trailing edge to the wings. Bill is large, yellow with black casque. Females have white orbital skin. Juveniles have no casque.
Habitat: Where to find this bird?
It favours evergreen and moist deciduous forests and often found near human settlements.
It is omnivorous and feeds on fruits, small mammals, birds, small reptiles, insects etc.
Breeding & Nesting
It breeds from March to April. It nests in tree cavities. Chicks are fed by both parents.
