How does the bird appear…
Head is white with dark spots. Neck and under parts are white. The upper parts are glossy blue-black upper parts, with bluish and greenish iridescence. Male is larger than female with large black knob on bill.
Habitat: Where to find this bird?
It is seen at Swamps, rivers and lakes in open or lightly wooded areas, as well as more open grassland, marshes, floodplains, flooded forest, pastures and rice-paddies.
It feeds mainly on vegetation but rarely takes small fish, invertebrates, insects etc.
Breeding & Nesting
African birds breed during and after the rainy season. It nests mainly in tree holes but also in tall grass.
