Indian Scops Owl


Indian Scops Owl is resident through Indian Subcontinent. It is nocturnal species.

How does the bird appear…

It has small head tufts. Upper parts are grey or brown, depending on the morph, with faint buff spotting. Buff under parts show darker streaking. It has a whitish or buff facial mask and a buff neckband. Eyes are orange or brown. Both sexes are similar.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

It inhabits well-wooded areas.


It feeds mainly on insects but also takes rodents, lizards and small birds.

Breeding & Nesting

It nests in tree hollows, rocks, old buildings or abandoned nests of other birds. Incubation period is of 28-29 days. Both parent feed the young ones.
