Great white pelican is also called as eastern white pelican, rosy pelican or white pelican.

How does the bird appear…

It is a large bird and male is larger than female. It has 280-400mm long bill. Mature bird has white plumage while young birds are grayish. The breeding males have pinkish facial skin and the females have orange facial skin.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

It prefers large, warm shallow water bodies surrounded by reed beds and dense vegetation. It inhabits freshwater and saline lakes, estuaries, mudflats, creeks and ponds.

Food

It feeds mainly on fish but also takes small birds, frogs, crustaceans.

Breeding & Nesting

In India it breeds from February to April. It nests on ground on pile of vegetation. Female lays 1-4 eggs. Both parents take care of young ones.
