Coppersmith barbet is also called as Copper-breastd barbet. It is known for its metronomic call that has been likened to a coppersmith striking metal with a hammer.
How does the bird appear…
Forehead is red. Crown and nape are green. It has yellow patches above and below the eye. Chin and throat are yellow. Under parts are mainly whitish, heavily streaked with green There is a red half-collar between throat and chest. Eyes are brown, with red eye-ring. Legs and feet are pinkish-red.
Habitat: Where to find this bird?
It is found in gardens, groves and sparse woodland.
It feeds on Banyan, Ficus religiosa, other wild figs, various drupes and berries, and the occasionally on insects (especially winged termite)
Breeding & Nesting:
Breeding season is from February to April in India. Nest is excavated by both the sexes, on the underside of narrow horizontal branch. Incubation is around 2 weeks. Both sexes incubate eggs.
