Collared Falconet


Collared neck Falconet is a bird of prey. It is found in the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is 18 cm long.

 How does the bird appear…

It is a very Small falcon and shrike-like in shape. Is mainly pied and have bold white super cilia and collar. Legs are strong and half-feathered.  It has short wings and medium-length tail. Both sexes are similar in plumage.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

The bird is found at Open deciduous forest, clearings and edges in evergreen forest.


It feeds on large insects such as butterflies, grasshoppers, dragonflies, beetles, cicadas. It also takes small birds, lizards and small mammals.

Breeding & Nesting

Breeding season is from February to May. It uses tree holes made by woodpeckers or barbets. 4-5 eggs are laid; incubation is done by both parents.
