Chilka Lake (Odisha) is brackish water lagoon spread over Ruri, Khurda and Ganjam district of Odisha. It is the largest wintering place for migratory birds in the Indian sub continent.
It hosts over 160 birds species. Birds from Caspian sea, Aral sea, remote parts of Russia , Kirghiz steppes of Mongolia, Central and south east Asta, Ladakh, Himalaya travel over here during winter. It is also home for numbers of threatened species of plants and animals.
