How does the bird appear…

It has black head, and brown body, with a brick red patch on the lower back, which is visible only when it flies. Bill is stocky pale grey-blue.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

It inhabits open grassland and cultivation.

Food

It feeds on seeds and grains.

Breeding & Nesting

Its breeding season is from June to September in Indian subcontinent.  Nest is a large domed grass structure situated in a bush or tall grass

Interesting fact

The black-headed munia was the national bird of the Philippines until 1995.
