Brown Shrike

Brown Shrike is mainly found in Asia. It is small, migratory shrike.

How does the bird appear…

Upper plumage and wings are mainly brown. The underside is creamy with rufous flanks and belly. Like other shrike it has black “Bandit-mask” though the eye. Female has dark-brown mask. Female have fine scalloping on the underside.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

It is usually found in open scrub habitat. During winter, it can be found frequently on the the edges of cultivated areas, bushy areas and gardens.


It feeds mainly on insects but also takes small birds and lizards. Like other shrikes it transfixes its prey on thorns.

Breeding & Nesting

Breeding saeason starts in late May. The cup shaped nest is predominently built by female.
