This relatively large barbet has large head, short neck and short tail. It has green plumage with streaked brown head, neck and breast. It has yellow eye patch. Bill is thick and red. Both sexes are alike.

It is mainly fruigivorous bird and feeds on fruits but also takes insects.
Breeding & Nesting
Breeding season is from February to October. It nests in tree hole. Nest is excavated by both male and female. Eggs are incubated by both parents in turns.
