Bonelli’s eagle is medium to great sized bird of prey.

How does the bird appear…

It has dark brown upperparts with white patch between thighs. Underparts are white with dark stripes. The wings are blackish. Tail is long, It is grey on top and white below with single broad black terminal band. The feet and eyes are yellow.

Juveniles have deep buff underparts and underwing coverts, and have fine barring on the tail without the terminal band.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

It inhabits hilly or mountainous habitats, with rocky walls or crags and open to wooded land, in arid to semi-moist climate.


It mainly takes medium sized bird but also preys on mammals (up to size of hare), reptiles, carrion.

Breeding & Nesting

It breeds between January to July. Nest is large platform of sticks placed on crags or in large trees. It may re-use old nests.
