Blue-faced malkoha


Blue-faced malkoha is restricted to Srilanka and southern India. it is a member of the cuckoo order of birds.

How does the bird appear…

It is a large bird. Back and head are dark green. The uppertail is green edged with white. The throat and belly are lighter green. There is a large blue patch around the eye and the bill is green. Male and female are similar in appearance but juveniles are duller.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

It inhabits open forests and scrub jungle.


It feeds on insects, caterpillars and small vertebrates. Occasionally it also takes berries.

Breeding & Nesting

It breeds round the year but peak is from March to May. Cup shaped nest is place few meters high in small tree or in thorny bush or in bamboo clump.
