How does the bird appear…

It is a large bird. Head has a glossy bluish-black iridescence.crown is coppery-brown.Back and belly are bright white.
Bill is black and legs are bright red. The sexes are identical but the adult female has a yellow iris while the adult
male has brown iris.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

It is a waderbird and found in wetlands. It os foundnear freshwater marshes, lakes, pools, large rivers,
irrigation canals, flooded agriculture fields.Occasionally it can be foundnear mangroves and coastal mudflats.

Food

It feeds on fish, small crustaceans, amphibians, large insects, birds, lizards, snakes, turtles and rodents.

Breeding & Nesting

In India nesting is seenduring September to November.Nest is large platform built in large isolated trees.Incubation
period is not known but is expected to be about 30 days.

The black-necked stork is classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List
