Black-headed cuckoo shrike


Black-headed cuckoo shrike is often silent bird. It is found in Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

How does the bird appear…

The male is ash grey with black head. It has whitish wings , tail and underparts.The head of the female is grey while the underparts are part black and white.

Habitat: Where to find this bird?

It inhabits open forest, secondary growth, scrub-jungle and bamboo it is also found in gardens, orchards, hedgerows etc.


It feeds mainly on insects but also takes fruits and berries and figs.

Breeding & Nesting

It breeds from June to September. Nest is cup shaped and made up of twigs and rootlets.
